Notes:
Monday 9/19- Today We focused on putting all of your information and questions that we came up with on the weekend and put them into the new wiki. We now put pictures and making the website look better by having not just pictures, but table to contents.
Tuesday 9/20- Today we went to kavanagh to ask him questions we thought up, but he was not there. We now received information from the survey monkey and we are going to incorporate it into the wiki and our solution we are going to come up with. We now gave out jobs that needed to be done and now Mike is going to do the majority of the IMovie and everyone else is going to find information on different resources. Our plan is to have all of the surveys and information done by thursday morning and be able to start writing and constructing the final website to complete the publication part of the project.
Wednesday 9/21- Today we were able to interview Mr. Puccio and take his opinion on what he thought needed to be done and he was able to answer all of the questions that were asked him on a video we made for our IMovie. While filming Ben and Mike were able to get a few links and resources to help better answer the questions.
Thursday 9/22- Today was only a half day so very little was able to get done. We were able to talk and divide up the remaining part of the project and make sure everything was going to be able to be completed in time for the deadline.
Friday 9/23- Today we went over the solution that was written by Erikand assigned the IMovie to be done over the weekend to Ben and Mike. Everything should be done by monday and we are going to put it all together on monday to make the final product.
Solution:
Gun Control has become more and more serious as the years have progressed. When we were little, we might have played games with guns or seen on tv stories about schools and guns. As kids, we were most likely not able to grasp and truly understand the power and destruction guns can have on a situation. One of the most known instances was the Columbine shooting which took place on Tuesday April 20th, 1999. Two high school students came to school with guns and killed 12 kids. This school massacre really opened peoples eyes and questioned schools about their security and what else they would be able to do to prevent this from happening again.
Our group was able to come up with two questions that were sent out to the student body see take their opinion on what they thought about gun control in our school. Our first question was, "Do you think that American citizens should have the right to bear arms?" 62% of the students said yes while 38% said no. This lead into our second question which was, "Do you think that gun control should be more strict?" 75.8% of the students responded yes followed by 31.3% saying no. As a group we thought it would be inappropriate to ask the students if they felt safe in school fearing there would be no responses. We left that question for Mr. Puccio, the Vice Principal, a reliable source for answering our questions.
Mr. Puccio was asked both questions on and off camera to get his input and what he thought about gun control in our schools. He thought that parents also need to be more safe and responsible in how and were they keep guns. He agrees that people should be able to own guns because it may be a hobby for them or even part of their sport for hunting. He also stated that people might carry a gun because of curiosity which can be the most dangerous. He really stressed the fact that adults need to be safe with protecting the guns and keeping them in a protected safe so that kids would never have access to them. We also followed up questions that talked about how does our school measure up to the standards and procedures that have been done to prevent the chance of another incident as serious as columbine or the incident in the past years of PV. He did say that a team of experts were brought to the school and did studies and helped out with the security. The security program also asked random students what they felt and thought about of our schools security.
Our groups main goal was not just tell students and teachers what could happen if someone brought a gun to school, but show them real incidents that have occurred and really make them realize how real this is. Gun control in schools is a big security problem in today's schools and it needs to be addressed. Our group is going to put our wiki and IMovie on a website and send it to all the students and teachers to show them how real this topic is and hope it impacts students to make them think twice on even bulling a kid. This will show them what an end result can possibly be and how important gun control is to the safety of our students.
